ABOUT THE ISLE OF MAN

The Isle of Man comes from Manx language, Ellan Vannin, where Ellan means “island”.

At the 2006 interim census, the Isle of Man was home of 80,058 people of whom 26,618 resided in island’s capital; Douglas.

The Island’s parliament, Tynwald, claims to be the oldest continuously existing ruling body in the world.

Manufacturing, tourism and banking form key sectors of the economy. Agriculture and fishing, once the mainstays of the economy, now make declining contributions to the Island’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
